Artist Statement

How can art be an educational tool and promote culture? What artistic practices and media can be used to communicate and encourage citizens to think differently about their environments? These are the questions at the heart of our enterprise in The Icon Factory, our artists’ co-operative.

The Icon Factory is delighted to announce the first exhibition for 2017, CONFIGURATIONS by Iwona Kręciwilk. OPENING 6pm 24th of February until 9pm.

The Icon Factory & The Icon Walk were officially invited to be one of the partners in new MA in Geography by National University of Ireland Maynooth.

The Icon Walk has been endorsed by the UNESCO City of Literature office as an important site for the celebration of Irish literary talent and culture.

The American Ireland Fund, organization that raises funds for the support of peace and reconciliation, community development, education, and arts and culture in Ireland guaranteed some funding for upcoming year to help develop and support The icon Walk project.

The Icon Project has been kindly supported by IPB Insurance. An initiative called the IPB Community Engagement Fund 2015 was set up to encourage “Healthier and more active communities– improving health and wellbeing for all and promoting an active lifestyle in the community”

I was delighted to find a crossroads of back streets covered in murals celebrating the whole spectrum of Irish cultural icons. This means literary giants, musicians, political and popular personalities who have had an impact on Irish society, sporting heroes, thespians and a whole lot more. Sitting at the centre of the crossroads was the organisation responsible for this magnificent display - The Icon Factory.  VALERIE GROVE
