Artist Statement

How can art be an educational tool and promote culture? What artistic practices and media can be used to communicate and encourage citizens to think differently about their environments? These are the questions at the heart of our enterprise in The Icon Factory, our artists’ co-operative.

Opening on May the 19th The Icon Factory is delighted to host an exhibition of hand-crafted copper engravings by craftsman and artisan John Farrell. John created Junior's Celtic Copper Revival in 2011 with the intention of helping to bring back a lost art which due to machinery was being lost. Hand engraving on copper is a unique form of metalwork which creates an inspiring reaction to the simplicity of a metal which is rarely used and appreciated in art. So join us at the wine reception opening on Friday May the 19th at 6pm. The exhibition will run until Wednesday the 14th of June. FOR MORE INFO: https://www.facebook.com/jnrcelticcopperrevival/

I was delighted to find a crossroads of back streets covered in murals celebrating the whole spectrum of Irish cultural icons. This means literary giants, musicians, political and popular personalities who have had an impact on Irish society, sporting heroes, thespians and a whole lot more. Sitting at the centre of the crossroads was the organisation responsible for this magnificent display - The Icon Factory.  VALERIE GROVE
