Rust & Rubble

Amy Thorn – ‘Rust & Rubble’ – November 2011

Rust & Rubble, Amy Thorn’s exhibition was launched by the Icon Factory on Friday the 11th of November.
Amy was the first (but hopefully not last) American artist to exhibit at the Icon Factory!

Amy, originally from Chicago, began painting three years ago, when she moved to Dublin from Chicago. She has worked with watercolors and acrylics, but has found that oil paints are her preferred medium. Amy likes to paint subjects that are sometimes rusty, sometimes crumbling, and often imperfect inspired by the history, street scenes, architecture and scenery she discovered in Ireland.
She has found that painting with a knife gives her work a tactile quality with paints laid on in thick layers. Amy is looking forward to developing her technique further in years to come!
Looking at her amazing artwork it is hard to believe she hasn’t until recently painted since she was a child.
